Worcestershire Parkway opening at last

Worcestershire Parkway station is to open on Sunday 23 February, Worcestershire County Council has confirmed.

The station was originally due to open with the December timetable change but regulatory sign-off was delayed. The Office of Rail and Road authorised the new infrastructure on 30 January, subject to conditions which include modification of the platform offsets by January 2021.

Worcestershire Parkway is located at the intersection of the Cotswold line and the Cross Country line linking Birmingham with Cheltenham. It has three platforms – one on the Cotswold line and two on the Cross Country route. It will be served GWR’s Worcester to Paddington Cotswold line services and CrossCountry’s hourly Cardiff to Nottingham service.

The county council has led the project to deliver the station, with Buckingham Group the lead contractor.

Facilities include a 500-space car park, with provision to add a second deck later if required, along with 25 electric car charging points, two bicycle shelters and parking space for motorcycles.
