First-ever electric E&G: Nos 380114 and 380004 pass through Croy at top speed working the 08.30 Glasgow Queen Street – Edinburgh Waverley via Falkirk High service on 10 December. The units kept excellent time throughout on the diesel-based timings – the conditions were very difficult due to adverse weather. Steven Fraser
SCOTRAIL INTRODUCED its first EMUs on the newly-electrified route between Edinburgh and Glasgow via Falkirk on Sunday 10 December.
Initially Class 380s from the operator’s existing fleet have begun working the route, but in the New Year new Hitachi Class 385 units will be introduced. The ‘380s’ will operate in seven-car formations, providing more seats and some faster journeys. Introduction of electric services using ‘380s’ was originally planned for December 2016, but delays completing the electrification work set this target back.
