Could the classic-compatible AeroLiner3000 ease the UK capacity crisis? ANDREAS VOGLER and DR JOACHIM WINTER present their demonstrator train
Double-deck trains have recently been in the limelight in Britain. This is after being completely out of consideration for decades, due to the fact that the British loading gauge is very low, compared to the Continental one. Recent proposals either target the insular solution of the new HS2 London-Birmingham line, which is planned to operate in Continental GC gauge, or do not take into account the costly (and often not even possible) reconstruction of existing lines.
CAPACITY AND COMPATIBILITY
This is where AeroLiner3000 shoots out of the tunnel. This is the first full double-deck train for the British loading gauge.
