Alstom builds for the future

Alstom’s UK and Ireland Managing Director NICK CROSSFIELD talks to PHILIP SHERRATT about developments since the company’s acquisition of Bombardier

Alstom completed its acquisition of Bombardier Transportation on 29 January 2021. The joint business is a transport powerhouse, with a global presence across virtually every area of the railway industry.

This is very much the case in the UK, as UK and Ireland Managing Director Nick Crossfield explains. ‘The beauty is that the two businesses are quite complementary’ he says. ‘Legacy Alstom had strong services, signalling and infrastructure businesses, while legacy Bombardier had a major rolling stock presence and a smaller signalling business. Bringing them together creates a company with a superb services business, a class-leading rolling stock platform (the Aventra EMU) and a nice signalling business. Now we can offer the full array of the Alstom portfolio in the UK and Ireland.’
