AVONMOUTH CHANGES

MARITIME TRANSPORT has acquired around eight acres of land at the east end of the Avonmouth bulk handling terminal for use as a lorry park.

Binliner terminal: preparation to resurface the land for the new lorry park land is visible at the rear of this view taken on 11 July 2020, when DB Cargo ‘Maritime’ blue loco No 66047 was running round the train from Northolt.

Coal loading operations have ended at the site; workings to Fiddlers Ferry power station finished in March 2019. But there is a vestigial rail operation as the 6C03 10.33 Northolt Sidings – Severnside Sita loaded refuse container working for Energy Power Recovery Generation at Seabank near Severn Beach now uses the terminal. Following passenger timetable changes last December, this train has been retimed in the London area and now can only reach Avonmouth via the Henbury loop from Filton, as there are no afternoon paths available between passenger services on the route via Clifton Down. Access to the Severn Beach branch is now via a reverse move at Hallen Marsh Junction.

The returning empties are still booked to run via Clifton Down.
