In the bleak midwinter


As I started back at work in January, it felt like a contradiction in terms to prelude nearly every e-mail with ‘Happy New Year’, as the descriptor doesn’t seem apt at all. Only a few days in, and we were back into lockdown in England, alongside other parts of the UK.

How long this would go on for remained unclear, but it seems certain that by the time you are reading this the same restrictions will be in place. However, the good news is there is light at the end of the tunnel now with vaccinations underway. Our own Roger Ford received his two doses of the Pfizer vaccine either side of Christmas, and if the rollout to millions of others can follow swiftly we all hope we can regain some sense of normality in our lives in the spring.
