Two bridges in Ashton-under-Lyne have been raised as part of the TransPennine Route Upgrade to provide clearance for overhead catenary.
Work is also ongoing to install overhead line equipment, upgrade signalling and renew track between Manchester and Stalybridge. The route between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge is being closed over the early May Bank Holiday from 30 April to 2 May for work to continue.
Elsewhere on the project, surveying has taken place on the 18-mile section between Stalybridge and Huddersfield including examining vegetation growth and undertaking wildlife surveys.
Track renewals between York and Church Fenton will also take place during May, along with installation of location cabinets and signal base foundations, as well as culvert and bridge works at Bolton Percy, Braegate Lane, Colton Junction and Copmanthorpe.
