CEMEX HAS invested over £300,000 into its Salford railhead, upgrading track and storage bays.
The company says the work is part of a strategic programme to upgrade track at its sites across the UK. So far 300 metres of track has been replaced along with new ballast, with a further 300 metres planned this year. Improvements to the storage bays mean carriages can now travel the full length of the shed, using all 10 bays, allowing hardstone deliveries from south Wales every two weeks by rail rather than these arriving by road.
GB Railfreight is the operator for the Cemex services, using new wagons bearing the company’s branding.
