To Norwich via the Great Eastern main line. This route bears many comparisons with my own London link, the Midland main line – not quite in the Premier League of inter-city routes and often viewed as a Cinderella line; a moderate end-to-end distance (114½ miles from London to Norwich, just a little more than St Pancras to Loughborough); ambitions to speed up journeys. Following the recent East Midlands franchise announcement, to that we can also add new trains, although as an adopted Midlander I look on jealously at a fully electrified route.
