New Siemens fleet for Great Northern Moorgate service set for autumn debut

By the beginning of May Siemens had finished construction of 13 of the 25x6-car Class 717 EMUs for Govia Thameslink Railway’s Great Northern suburban services from Welwyn Garden City, Hertford and Stevenage into Moorgate. The £200 million fleet is being built at the manufacturer’s Krefeld site in Germany, with trains undergoing testing at Wildenrath prior to moving to the UK.
