CLESHAR TO TAKE OVER ELL MAINTENANCE

TRANSPORT FOR London is to appoint Cleshar Contract Services to take over maintenance work on London Overground’s East London line. The company is expected to take over on 1 April work previously carried out by Carillion, until that firm ran into financial trouble and went into liquidation. In the meantime, TfL is working with PwC to finalise an agreement which will enable Carillion to fulfil the East London line contract until the new deal begins. TfL says it will guarantee to support Carillion employees’ continued work and payment, and existing employees will transfer to Cleshar with their terms and conditions protected. Unlike the rest of the Overground network, which operates on Network Rail infrastructure, TfL retains responsibility for maintaining the East London line, which was previously part of the London Underground network.
