A CONSULTATION was launched on 27 January about the potential to improve transport links between Abbey Wood and Ebbsfleet, with extension of Elizabeth Line services one of the options.
The C2E partnership (C2E standing for Crossrail to Ebbsfleet) initiated the consultation. It says improvements to the transport network east of Abbey Wood would make the most of the new Elizabeth Line services, scheduled to start running in the first half of 2022. Government has supported the C2E partnership to develop options to enhance transport services, which would help to facilitate new housing and economic growth. The partnership expects to report back to Government later this year, and the consultation is the first of two it will undertake. However, it highlights there is no funding commitment yet for any transport improvement.
The consultation presents five options, three of which revolve around an extension of the Elizabeth Line east of Abbey Wood. Two of these foresee Elizabeth Line services running to Northfleet, from where there would be a pedestrian and cycle bridge linking Northfleet station to Ebbsfleet International.
