The Isle of Wight’s railway is in the midst of an upgrade, although various challenges have delayed the reopening of the Ryde to Shanklin line (‘News Front’). However, Isle of Wight Council wants to extend beyond the present 8½-mile line as a means of addressing high rates of deprivation on the island.
