Edgware Rd cabin closes

THE NEXT two sections of new signalling equipment went live on London Underground’s sub-surface lines at the beginning of September.

Thales is installing its Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling across the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines. The first section between Hammersmith and Latimer Road went live in March and has now been followed by the Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines as far east as Euston Square along with the Metropolitan Line between Finchley Road and Euston Square.

The latest ‘go live’ introduced the new signalling across the complex junction at Baker Street and saw the decommissioning of the signal cabin at Edgware Road, which opened in 1926.

The new signalling equipment is being introduced across 15 Signalling Migration Areas (SMAs), with Transport for London planning frequency increases from 2021 and completion of the project by 2023.
