Electrostar upgrade programme

Set for an upgrade: Great Northern's No 387101 arrives at Ely with the 09.26 King's Lynn to King's Cross service on 1 January 2020.

Govia Thameslink Railway and Porterbrook have announced a £55 million modernisation programme for Class 377 and 387 Electrostar EMUs.

Enhancements will include provision of real-time passenger information screens and USB/power points, LED lighting and fitment of an on-train data recorder to predict and diagnose faults. The programme will cover 214 Class 377s working on GTR’s Southern services and 56 Class 387s on Great Northern and Gatwick Express duties. Passenger counting technology and forward-facing CCTV will also be added as part of the work.

GTR says the first upgraded train will be completed at Selhurst depot in the autumn, with one train per week completed when the programme is in full swing.
