ALSTOM GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR BOMBARDIER ACQUISITION
On 31 July 2020 the European Commission announced its approval for the planned acquisition of Bombardier Transportation by Alstom. Following concerns raised by the Commission about potential market dominance by the enlarged Alstom in the regional train, high-speed train and signalling markets Alstom had offered a series of planned sales/divestments of parts of the combined business. The following were set as conditions for accepting the deal:
• transfer of Bombardier’s design rights and contribution to the V300 Zefiro (Trenitalia ETR1000) high-speed train to Hitachi and an offer to license to Hitachi the intellectual property for the HS2 train co-developed by Hitachi and Bombardier for use in the UK;
• sale of the Alstom Coradia Polyvalent (multi-voltage/bi-mode EMU) product line plus the Alstom Reichshoffen (ex De Dietrich) site in France;
• sale of the Bombardier Talent 3 EMU platform and its dedicated production facilities located within the large Bombardier Hennigsdorf site in Germany;
