Fearne Cotton and Paul Merson join Rail Wellbeing Live line-up

Television presenter Fearne Cotton and former footballer Paul Merson are the latest additions to the line-up of speakers for Rail Wellbeing Live – a free pan-industry supported online event for railway staff on 17/18 November.

They join double gold Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington, author Bryony Gordon, Jason Fox from TV’s SAS: Who Dares Wins and GP Dr Rupy Aujla amongst expert presenters at the event.

It is estimated that ill-health costs the rail industry almost £800 million per year, with a 3.9% absence rate due to physical and mental health issues: more than double the private sector average. Research from the Office of National Statistics suggests one in five adults experienced some form of depression in early 2021, more than double pre-pandemic levels.

Rail Wellbeing Alliance chair and Managing Director for Network Rail’s Southern Region John Halsall says thousands of people have already registered, adding ‘but with 240,000 across the industry there are so many more people who could benefit from this free event, so I’d encourage everyone across the industry to sign up if they haven’t already.’

Registered attendees can watch all of the sessions, which cover topics including physical, mental and occupational health either live or after the event.
