FIRST REFURBISHED ELECTROSTAR

Moving Wheels

THE FIRST of 270 Govia Thameslink Railway Electrostar EMUs to be updated has returned to service.

The £55 million programme is part of Porterbrook’s Project ‘Aurora’ and covers the Class 377 and 387 fleets in service across GTR’s Southern, Gatwick Express and Great Northern brands. No 377430 was the first unit to be completed, emerging from Selhurst depot in early February.

The project includes provision of new information screens, USB/ power points, LED lighting, passenger counting technology, and fault diagnosis systems, including a new On-Train Data Recorder and forward-facing CCTV cameras. A new ethernet backbone through the train supports the extra data requirement represented by the new features.
