DECARBONISING
Although there are some stubborn exceptions, the human race is starting to acknowledge its impact on climate. This is a massive opportunity for rail – witness the ongoing ‘Eco-Logique’ Eurostar marketing pointing to an 80% saving in CO2 emissions compared with the plane. In the UK, dealing with the decades-long shortfall in electrification progress against our peers feels like it should have higher priority. Yet there is a risk of insufficient attention given other priorities, including reorganising the industry.
