KENILWORTH CONCERN
Fraser Pithie asks why the Manchester to Bournemouth CrossCountry service cannot call at Kenilworth (‘Forum’, last month). The answer is simple: the trains were, pre-Covid, completely full at popular times. They were full whenI was MD of CrossCountry to 2007, following a period of spectacular growth in the preceding years, and have been ever since. Yes, the trains could be longer, but will it then be wise to fill them with £3.10 day return passengers from Kenilworth to Coventry or use the extra capacity for higher revenue journeys like Manchester to Oxford and Birmingham to Reading? The extra carriages will have to be paid for somehow.
