Genesee & Wyoming Inc is to be acquired by Brookfield Infrastructure and GIC in an $8.4 billion transaction.
The transaction has been approved by G&W’s board of directors and is subject to stockholder approval. Under the ownership of the new consortium, G&W would become a privately held company. G&W owns a portfolio of 120 short line railways, predominantly in North America, alongside operations in Europe and Australia.
The transaction is expected to close by early 2020.
