FUNDING FOR FIVE STATIONS

THE DEPARTMENT for Transport has pledged £16 million towards five new stations under its New Stations Fund.

The stations concerned are:

■ Horden Peterlee, on the Durham coast line;

■ Warrington West, on the Manchester to Liverpool line, supporting the Chapelford Urban Village housing development;

■ Reading Green Park, on the Reading to Basingstoke line;

■ Bow Street, between Aberystwyth and Borth on the Cambrian line;

■ Portway Parkway, on the Severn Beach line near Shirehampton, serving an existing park and ride site.

In each case DfT will provide a portion of the funding towards the overall project costs of the schemes. All the new stations will be accessible, with step-free access throughout, and all will be completed by March 2020.

This is the second round of funding under the scheme. The initial round has supported new stations at Newcourt, Lea Bridge, Pye Corner and Ilkeston, along with Kenilworth, which is due to open in December.
