As I write this, it is almost exactly one year since I took over as Editor of this great magazine. To say that year has not panned out how myself or anybody expected is perhaps an understatement!
When we announced the change of editorship last February, there was still no real sign of the scale of the impact of the coronavirus crisis and just howit would affect all our lives. One highlight of the early part of 2020 was attending the opening of CAF’s rolling stock factory at Newport by the Prince of Wales. All those lucky enough to be invited to this event mingled happily in the way to which we were accustomed, and it was an excellent example of how the industry comes together to celebrate achievement.
Less than a month later, it was clear Covid would significantly impact the UK, but many thought the virus would pass within a matter of months and by the summer or autumn our lives could return to normal. In the meantime, like so many companies, we were rapidly developing contingency plans to ensure business could carry on, as much as possible, as usual.
