Train services across the Exeter conurbation have improved over the years as Devon County Council’s (DCC) aspirations for public transport around the city have gradually been realised. In 2009, the Waterloo trains serving east Devon went hourly; there was another step forward on that route in 2013 with the completion of the modernisation of Exeter Central, a well-located station at the heart of the city. New stations at Cranbrook on the Waterloo main line and Newcourt on the Exmouth branch opened in 2015.
