With summer almost gone, the opportunity arose to take a day trip to Cumbria and savour a bit of traditional locomotive haulage, delivered courtesy of the Department for Transport and its ‘Project Arcturus’ – the desperate cascade plan which sought to provide sufficient rolling stock in the North West after permission was granted by the Department for Chiltern to take nine Class 170 sets from TransPennine Express.
