GTR and Siemens mark five years of the “700s”

Govia Thameslink Railway and Siemens celebrated five years in traffic of the Class 700 Desiro City EMUs on June 30.

Since their introduction from 2016, it’s estimated the 115-strong fleet has travelled more than 58 million miles – almost half the distance to Mars. A 12-car formation can carry more than 1,700 people at maximum capacity, and innovations include running under Automatic Train Operation under ETCS Level 2 signalling in the central section of Thameslink.
