GW first with TM

INTEGRATED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT HAS BEEN INTRODUCED IN THE THAMES VALLEY SIGNALLING CENTRE, WRITES ROGER FORD

On 10 June 2018 the Great Western main line (GWML) between Paddington and Bristol Parkway became the first Network Rail route to operate under Integrated Traffic Management (TM). This has been a remarkable achievement on a number of counts.

First, Network Rail signed the contract with Derby-based British company Resonate on 8 June 2017. In fact the TM system was ready to go live on the first anniversary of the signing, but as this was a Friday it was considered prudent to wait until the start of a week.

Second, at the time of writing, two other TM contracts, signed in 2014 and 2015, had yet to become operational on a live railway. In addition, they will provide the lower specification ‘Isolated’ or ‘Interfaced’ TM facilities.
