Heat to close ECML From King's Cross to York/Leeds

The East Coast main line between King’s Cross and York and Leeds is due to shut on 19 July due to extreme heat.

Network Rail expects the route to be shut from 12.00 to 20.00 with only a skeleton service operating in the morning. It says the closure is taking place because the infrastructure on the East Coast main line is not designed for the predicted temperatures. Further changes could happen if high temperatures last longer than expected.

Elsewhere, in England and Wales, train operators are advising passengers not to travel and are warning of speed restrictions and disruption to services.
