The business behind the doors of the Rail Technical Centre in Derby is looking to expand. Railway Vehicle Engineering Ltd (RVEL) became Loram UK last summer after the completion of its acquisition by American firm Loram.
Loram supplies on-track machines to countries across the world, including Brazil, Australia, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the UK. The acquisition gives Loram a UK launch-pad for its services and support offering associated with rail grinding, with ambitions to grow its customer base across Europe. The company is presently supplying new rail grinding machines for Network Rail – two four-car machines have already reached the UK and are undergoing main line testing, while a seven-car vehicle is on the way. These will enable NR to withdraw its older C21 machines.
