AS WE approached the end of 2019, Rail Forum Midlands (RFM) asked a few colleagues from the rail sector to share their hopes and wishes for the New Year. This is what they said.
‘A thriving rail industry is so important to the Midlands and beyond, that’s why our 2020 wish is for the rail sector deal pilots to deliver a more innovative, sustainable and highly-skilled industry for us all’ says Will Tanner, Director of Public Relations and Public Affairs UK, Africa & Middle East at Bombardier Transportation.
Gary Hunter, Head of Business Development for Elastacloud data-science and cloud consultancy for the rail sector, hopes the rail industry will continue moving towards intelligent edge technologies, real-time monitoring and prediction, learning from the aircraft sector, where small and powerful personal computers perform streaming analytics to monitor and optimise for efficiency, based upon sensors that monitor braking systems, HVAC, engines and other systems.
During 2020 Elastacloud hopes to develop a digital-twin of the UK rail network to collect big data, facilitate rail construction and developments, and monitor rail infrastructure and systems for whole-life maintenance. Mr Hunter hopes he wil…
