Rolling stock leasing company Porterbrook is to take a 49% stake in Kilmarnock-based Brodie Engineering.

The company is said to be the only active rail engineering business in Scotland, and it specialises in heavy maintenance, refurbishment and overhauls of rolling stock. The acquisition of the stake, says Porterbrook, ‘underpins’ its ability to promote a ‘full turnkey’ solution for rolling stock.

CEO Mary Grant said: ‘Brodie Engineering is an excellent fit for us. The expansion in recent years into the Caledonia Works underlines the ambition of Gerry Hilferty and his team. They’re doing a fantastic job and will continue to run the day-to-day operations of the company.’

Brodie Engineering started in 1996 and has two sites in Kilmarnock – Bonnyton Works, and Caledonia Works.
