Post-HS2 service assumptions revealed

King’s Cross to Nottingham and CrossCountry to Hull among proposals

POTENTIAL OPTIONS for reconfiguration of released capacity following opening of HS2 have been set out in a document published by the Department for Transport.

East Coast recast post-HS2: EMR’s No 156919 arrives at Grantham on 4 August 2020 with the 08.45 Nottingham to Skegness service. Documents released by the Department for Transport suggest a Nottingham to King’s Cross service via Grantham will be introduced after HS2 opens.

The latest version of the Planet Framework Model (PFM) document includes Train Service Specifications setting out how existing operators’ services on the classic network may be affected by HS2. However, the document notes the assumptions ‘are designed only for the purpose of providing a suitable reference case for the appraisal of HS2’ and says decisions about train service requirements have yet to be taken.
