A preview of the entries for rail’s longest-running awards event
The government-sponsored Thameslink Programme has seen the complete redevelopment of London Bridge station as part of works to enable 24 trains per hour to run through the Thameslink core (Blackfriars to St Pancras) at peak times. The redevelopment occurred in three distinct stages, enabling the station to remain open throughout construction, despite being demolished and rebuilt from the ground up.
COMMUNICATION THE KEY
Network Rail, Siemens and Thales teamed up to produce a solution that allows two separate manufacturer-specific systems to communicate via off-the-shelf serial-over-LAN technology. The system is future proof and allows engineers to input data for the Westlock system to interface with the AzLM axle counter.
STAY AWAY FROM THE LIGHTS
Effecting a safety exclusion zone around working Road Rail Vehicles at night is difficult, especially when those vehicles may move during the course of works. The Keltbray blue light system uses bright vehicle-mounted LEDs to mark out a 10-metre no-go zone on the ground around operational machinery to warn people to keep clear.
