RETURN TICKETS ABOLISHED IN LNER FARES TRIAL

News Front

LNER IS to trial replacement of return fares with two singles in a bid to simplify fare options for passengers.

The trial will be for journeys from 2 January 2020 between London King’s Cross and Leeds, Newcastle or Edinburgh only. It aims to address the situation where single tickets are nearly the cost of a return fare by replacing the return with a single ticket at around half the price, enabling passengers to ‘mix and match’ the best ticket for each leg of their journey. The trial is supported by the Department for Transport.

Anytime Return, Off-Peak Return and Super Off-Peak Return fares will be removed on these flows, with passengers instead able to purchase Anytime, Super Off-Peak or Advance Singles. The trial will not apply to journeys to or from other intermediate stations.
