Salisbury to fully reopen on 16 November

Repair work takes place at Fisherton Tunnel, Salisbury.

Network Rail, South Western Railway and Great Western Railway say the railway through Salisbury will fully reopen on Tuesday 16 November.

It has been closed since 31 October when a South Western Railway Waterloo-Honiton train collided with a Great Western Railway Portsmouth Harbour-Bristol service at Fisherton tunnel, just east of the station.

Network Rail will spend a full day treating track in the area with Rail Head Treatment Trains, and test trains will also evaluate the repaired infrastructure before it is cleared for public use.

Around 1,500 sleepers and three sets have points have been replaced, in addition to signalling equipment and track circuits damaged in the accident.
