Six shortlisted for GBR headquarters

LNER No 801204 calls at York with 25 October 2021's 09.00 Edinburgh-King's Cross. York has been shortlisted as a possible location for the GBR headquarters.

Birmingham, Crewe, Derby, Doncaster, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and York have been shortlisted as possible headquarters for Great British Railways.

The six locations were chosen from a total of 42 bids to host the new organisation’s headquarters, and a public vote has opened which – says the government – ‘will play a crucial role in determining the chosen location’, although it is unclear how much weight this vote will have given that it is non-binding.

Votes close on 15 August, and the Secretary of State for Transport is expected to decided the headquarters location later this year, following visits to all six places by government ministers and Great British Railways Transition Team representatives.
