Stadler hands first ‘777’ to Liverpool

The first Class 777 has been handed over to Liverpool City Region Combined Authority

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has received the first Stadler Class 777 EMU following extensive testing on the Merseyrail network and in Germany.

The 53 new four-car trains will replace the aged Class 507/508 trains used on Merseyrail and Stadler will now hand more trains over to the authority ahead of introduction into passenger service. The first trains will run on the Kirkby line, which runs past the maintenance depot at Kirkdale, Ormskirk will follow that, with a route-by-route rollout proceeding on the North Wirral, South Wirral and Hunts Cross-Southport routes.Trials of battery operation were successfully completed last month, paving the way for expansion of the Merseyrail network, potentially as far as Wrexham and Preston.
