Ken Cordner’s contribution as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Head of Media Relations was seen best from his handling of the 1993 route announcement of the (second and final) single alignment for the high-speed line (HS1) proposed by Government. Ken’s role was made all the more onerous by the leaking of the chosen route by the Shadow Secretary for Transport, John Prescott MP, and the railway unions some 24 hours earlier than a formal announcement by the then Secretary of State for Transport, John MacGregor MP.
