SUTTON LOOP RESIGNALLED

NETWORK RAIL has completed resignalling of the Sutton/Wimbledon loop in south west London.

A £45 million scheme has seen every signal renewed on the 37-mile stretch, with control transferred from Victoria signalling centre at Clapham to the Three Bridges Rail Operating Centre. The work also included the rebuilding of Mitcham Eastfields level crossing, upgrading of five junctions, replacement of over 100 track circuits with axle counters and provision of 115 new signalling equipment housings. Work was carried out in stages and completed over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

More than 2,000 staff worked on projects across NR’s South East Route over the weekend, with other work including drainage improvements in Sevenoaks Tunnel and track renewal between New Cross and Norwood Junction.
