LONDON NORTH EASTERN
Durham Coast Area (2:20C/45/44C) The Durham Coast re-signalling and re-control project has renewed life expired line side signalling equipment from Norton South Junction to Greatham and re-controlled Greatham and Ryhope Grange signal boxes to a new workstation (Hartlepool) at York ROC. The route from Norton-on-Tees East Junction to Ferryhill Junction has also been re-controlled. The area now fringes to Tyneside IECC at Ryhope Grange (at 88M 31ch) and Ferryhill Junction (at 9M 06ch) and with York ROC Bowesfield Workstation between Norton-on-Tees South Junction and Stockton (at 60m 60ch).
The project has closed nine signal boxes – Ryhope Grange (frame and panel), Greatham, Billingham, Belasis Lane, Norton-on-Tees, Norton-on-Tees East, Norton-on-Tees South, Norton-on-Tees West and Ferryhill. Signal prefixes have been altered to NF for Norton-on-Tees to Ferryhill and NS for Northallerton to Sunderland; those prefixed GM (Greatham) remain as before.
