2018 IS SET TO BE A BUSY YEAR OF ENTRIES INTO SERVICE AS THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES ON ORDER CONTINUES TO RISE, WRITES PHILIP SHERRATT

Where new train orders are concerned, 2017 was undoubtedly the year of the Aventra. Bombardier has added over 1,000 vehicles to its order book with two further operators buying into its new EMU platform – South Western Railway and West Midlands Trains (p80). Once deliveries of Class 700s to Govia Thameslink Railway are completed this year, the 750 Class 701 carriages for SWR will be the largest order to a single operator in the UK.
