Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK is part of the global Knorr-Bremse Group. Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK operates four facilities in the UK: Melksham (HQ) and Corsham both in Wiltshire, Burton-upon-Trent and Manchester. Melksham and nearby Corsham are involved in the design and manufacture of advanced rail vehicle brake control systems for both UK and global applications whilst Burton is a specialist rail vehicle air-conditioning facility and Manchester is involved in the development and manufacture of advanced braking friction materials for rail applications. The Knorr-Bremse Rail Division, of which Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK is part, is at the very forefront of the development of advanced ‘Cross-Connected Systems’ for rail vehicles of all types; from trams to very high-speed trains. These systems include braking, air-conditioning, power-supply, sanding, toilets, train doors, wash/wipe, and integrated digital control and monitoring technology, which support optimised systems performance whilst reducing energy usage and the environmental impact of rail operations. Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK is the source of the entire Knorr-Bremse portfolio of Cross-Connected systems for train builders and rail operators in the UK and Ireland and provides full and long-term support for this portfolio through its specialist RailServices organisation
