NETWORK RAIL is preparing for major works at Blackpool with a 19-week blockade set to begin on 11 November.
The routes from Preston to both Blackpool North and Blackpool South will be closed until 28 January 2018, with the Blackpool North line remaining shut until 25 March 2018. During this time NR is to carry out upgrades to track and platforms at Blackpool North and Kirkham & Wesham and to install 84 new signals as part of an upgrade of the signalling system.
Electrification of the line to Blackpool North is due to be completed in time for the May 2018 timetable change.
