Camden Council has developed a set of principles for a plan to guide development around and above Euston station, as phase 1 of HS2 approaches the construction phase. Alongside the council, Network Rail, Crossrail 2 and Transport for London are thinking about how best to redesign and redevelop the station and adjoining local area.

EUSTON’S PRINCIPLES

The council outlined its overarching ambition of ‘designing Euston as a sustainable place for everyone to enjoy, a new piece of city with a world-class transport interchange and a vibrant mix of housing (including genuinely affordable housing), economic uses, open space and cultural facilities which knits into and reconnects existing communities and areas’. This is one of seven key principles set out in the consultation exercise.

Other principles that have been highlighted as key to the upgrades being made to Euston include using the available space in an efficient way and ensuring ‘any development is outward-looking in all directions to encourage permeability and to disperse and rebalance activity and economic potential’.
