First wires up on TransPennine Route Upgrade

Overhead wires being installed between Church Fenton and Colton Junction as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade

Overhead wires have been installed on the six miles between Church Fenton and Colton Junction as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU).

It marks the first major milestone on the project which will ultimately create an electrified and higher-capacity railway between York and Manchester. A total of 37 miles of overhead lines were installed on the four-track section, with work carried out at nights and weekends.

The Overhead line equipment was assembled at the Joseph Lynn logistics hub near Sherburn-in-Elmet and moved to site by train to reduce lorry movements.
