LONDON BRIDGE STATION DESIGN
Your interview with Claire Gott (‘My Railway Life’, last month) provides us with a fascinating insight into some of the design features of the station. However, I feel this is another case of form over function. The so-called ‘eyebrows’ are all very well, but can anyone explain why the canopies over the rest of the platforms are so high as to afford virtually no protection from the rain on wet days, particularly if accompanied by anything other than a light wind?
We used to have a splendid overall roof which, whilst not suitable for the modern station, nonetheless kept out most of the rain. Covering over the space between the modern canopies would be an easy upgrade – simply extend the London-end short coverings down the entire platform. However, I guess that would have to wait…
