GA FLEET TRANSITION DETAILS REVEALED

GREATER ANGLIA’S first new trains as part of its completed fleet replacement will be the Bombardier Aventra EMUs for suburban routes. The detail is contained in the operator’s franchise agreement, published by the Department for Transport.

A total of 89x5-car and 22x10-car Aventras will be leased from Angel Trains from February 2019, with the five-cars all in service by December 2019 and the 10-cars by March 2020. Each 10-car train will carry 1,435 passengers, including 1,145 seated in a 3+2 arrangement, while the five-cars will accommodate 689 passengers, 544 seated.

The Stadler units, comprising 10 EMUs for Norwich inter-city services, 10 EMUs for the Stansted Express and 24x4-car and 14x3-car electro-diesels for regional routes, will all be in service by the end of 2019. Bodyshells will be fabricated at Stadler’s plant in Poland. The first unit will be a four-car bi-mode leased from April 2019, with the EMUs coming on stream from May and the three-car bi-modes from July of that year. The Norwich units will offer 672 standard and 80 first class seats in 2+2 and 2+1 configuration respectively, with the Stansted units offering 748 standard seats.
