GWR acquires Vivarail’s fast charging assets

Nine Vivarail staff employed by GWR

As liquidation of Vivarail begins, Great Western Railway has agreed contracts to acquire intellectual property, rolling stock and equipment related to the company’s high-performance battery and FastCharge technology.

GWR was due to test a rapid-charge battery-powered Class 230 between West Ealing and Greenford, but this was put in doubt due to Vivarail’s insolvency. The acquisitions mean the trial will now continue. GWR is checking equipment at Bletchley before testing can resume: it says it hopes to start the trial at the start of summer.

Nine former Vivarail staff have been employed by GWR to support the trials and project  development.

Charge ahead: GWR has acquired rights and equipment to continue trials of a battery-powered Class 230.
