HIGHLAND FUEL LOST TO ROAD HAULAGE

CERTAS ENERGY has confirmed to local newspapers that the rail flows of fuel from Grangemouth oil refinery to Fort William on the West Highland line and Lairg on the Far North line have now finished and fuel to those two depots will now be delivered by road, putting over 400 lorry movements a year onto Highland roads.

The very last train of empties came south from Lairg on 1 April, when No 66101 hauled eight TTA tanks south to Mossend and then in the early evening took them from Mossend back to Grangemouth oil terminal.

Last working: empty tanks from Lairg run down the single track oil terminal branch in Grangemouth on 1 April 2017 (the other track is the single track Fouldubs Junction to Grangemouth Docks line).
