HIGHLAND SPRING WATER BY RAIL

Rail Freight

AS WE reported last month (p53), permission has been granted for the construction of a railfreight terminal with loading facilities on the site of the former Blackford station and freight yard. The work will take place in three phases: irst a footbridge will be built to replace Panholes foot crossing, followed by track and signalling alterations and inally work on the terminal itself, which is planned to start in early spring 2019. The terminal and associated warehousing is set to be completed by early 2020. Initially one train per day is expected to serve the nearby water bottling plant.

Blackford: a general view looking north of the work site, as in the distance No 170417 speeds north with the 14.41 Glasgow Queen Street to Inverness via Aberdeen on 24 October.
